Coach travel has evolved over the years, and is now the cheaper, more convenient solution to travelling long distances on a train. Greyhound bus services came to the UK in 2009, having been a well established coach company in the USA for many years previously. Although initially Greyhound started doing trips just between London, Portsmouth and Southampton, they now offer over 11 other destinations around the UK, the furthest afield (and the longest journey) being Glasgow to London Victoria. The cost of journeys can often determine whether you are willing to travel or not – a single train ticket from Southampton to London Victoria can cost you about £30 and can take one and a half hours to reach your destination. Special pricing also ensure that customers can benefit from even cheaper prices than these, when booked far enough in advance, even journeys such as Glasgow to Victoria can be just £1 with a 50p booking fee. With prices that low, travellers can save so much money and spend it on events and attractions in London rather than spending a fortune trying to get there!
Facilities
Greyhound bus services pride themselves on the quality of features available on their coaches. Seatbelts are installed on all coaches to ensure passenger comfort and safety. Seats are also spaced out well so that passengers have ample leg room, making it a much more relaxing journey than that of a cramped train. For passengers that are travelling overnight or just want to sit back and relax for their journey, the seats are able to recline to boost your comfort even further.
Even with the seat in front reclined, you will still find that you have plenty of room to relax in your own space without feeling like you are being squashed in. You could easily sit on a laptop or read a newspaper without feeling like the seat in front is restricting your space. Also, for laptop users, power sockets are provided to allow you to charge certain devices such as mobile phones as well as laptops.
For anyone who brings a portable device on board, certain coaches also offer enhanced Wi-Fi access, allowing you to work online or just generally browse the internet whilst you travel. Toilets are also available on board the coach so that you don’t have to worry about waiting till you reach a rest stop to go to the bathroom!
Overall, Greyhound bus is a great way to travel if you want to save some money without compromising on the quality of the journey itself. Some travel times may take longer, but if you are willing to sit in comfort and still get great discounts, it will be well worth the wait.
